Our Story
Brand Story & Inspiration
Black Point Mercantile began with a passion for material with meaning. Where history isn’t just referenced, but woven into every stitch and surface.
Founder Jeremy Bennett started his craft in the basement of a historic 1789 home in Scarborough, Maine, surrounded by heritage and the echoes of early American design. What began as a personal pursuit to honor classic materials and thoughtful construction grew into a respected atelier of handcrafted goods.
Craft With Purpose
At Black Point Mercantile, we’re guided by a simple philosophy: beauty, strength, and story matter as much as function. We explore forgotten textiles and salvaged canvas, reimagining them into durable bags, textiles, and home goods that carry their own legacy forward.
Many of our creations draw inspiration from:
Vintage maritime and nautical history, including signal flags and sea-worn canvas
Military heritage materials and utilitarian design
Classic leatherwork and time-tested stitching methods
Early American makers, logging traditions, and the rugged craft of the past
We treat every material as a puzzle, and every piece as a bridge between past and future. We are creating goods that don’t just age, but gain character over time.
Meet the Maker
Jeremy Bennett — Founder & Lead Maker
Jeremy grew up along the Oregon Coast in Coos Bay, where the rhythm of wind, water, and weather shaped a deep appreciation for rugged design.
After moving to Colorado and serving five years in the U.S. military, he returned to a life of craft and creativity. Over two decades, Jeremy honed his skills in product design and development. Working with high-end outdoor brands, leading product teams, and refining his ability to marry form and function.
What started as experiments in repurposing vintage materials in Maine (from salvaged military canvas to hand-distressed fabrics) evolved into Black Point Mercantile’s signature approach: honoring the history of materials while enabling a bold future of everyday use.
Jeremy and his wife Briana, along with their three children, continue to grow the brand with intention and heart—blending family, heritage, and craftsmanship in a way that celebrates both the past and the promise of what’s next.
